This prestigious award is given in memory of Pierre Sonier who died of cancer on June 9, 1996. The award has been donated by the friends and families of the 1995-96 Forest City Major Atom Team who were a major support to the Sonier Family throughout Pierre's illness.
Pierre was a fine coach and a fine athlete. He played many sports and being a part of provincial championship teams was not an uncommon event for him. He coached his children in soccer, basketball and hockey for ten years. His goal was always to build every player's self-esteem and to motivate the team to do their very best. He educated while he coached. Winning was a goal, but never giving up and being the best you could be was more important.
Each year this award will go to a head coach whom Pierre would admire for their love of sport and for the sacrifice of their time and energy for the children. It will go to a coach who has an unconditional commitment to each and every child. This coach must have a competitive spirit but know what is really important in life - the success and happiness of children.
